Help secure the future of Brixton Windmill

Friends of Windmill Gardens
The Friends of Windmill Gardens write as follows:

In 2016 Brixton Windmill celebrates its bicentenary. This is just one year after the current Heritage Lottery funding for the windmill and the highly successful schools programme comes to an end. Before that, the Friends of Windmill Gardens need to develop a robust sustainability plan to ensure the future of Brixton Windmill.

We are looking for Friends, volunteers and new supporters of Brixton Windmill to join a group to develop a clear plan for the future. The Friends have some ideas already, but we welcome more. We particularly need help from anyone with creative ideas and with expertise in the area of fundraising and budget planning.

The first meeting of the Windmill Sustainability Group will be held on Thursday 11 September at 6.30pm, before the bat walk (see above). If you would like to help, please email info@brixtonwindmill.org.uk and put “Sustainability” in the subject line.

Become a Street Champion

New Park Road Adrian

The Council is looking for people who care about their area and are keen to take action to improve their neighbourhoods.  By becoming a Street Champion, residents will have a direct impact on the way their street looks by working with their neighbours and the council to find solutions to litter, dog mess and fly-tipping on their streets.

We hope Street Champions will get involved in a range of activities which might include:

  • Developing new types of signage to deter dog fouling and fly-tipping
  • Sticking notes on bins that are left on the pavement all week
  • Talking to neighbours about keeping a look-out for persistent fly-tippers or dog foulers
  • Encouraging neighbours to recycle more

Street Champions will come up with their own solution to resolve problems in their area.

The Street Cleansing/Environmental team will be following up the letter the Council is sending out with a visit to residents to persuade them to engage with the scheme.

Any resident wanting to know more about the scheme or wishing to sign up as a Street Champion should please email streetchampions@lambeth.gov.uk or telephone 020 7936 3069.
