Killer of Alim Uddin pleads guilty to murder

Brixton Hill councillors have welcomed the news that a 16-year-old boy who stabbed a Brixton Hill A-level student to death in a row over a £90 bike is facing a life sentence after he confessed to murder.

The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, killed 17-year-old Alim Uddin at a block on the Roupell Park estate. The killer had apparently taken Alim’s money then failed to deliver the bicycle. He has confessed to stabbing Mr Uddin after they arranged to meet at Tilford House on Holmewood Gardens on May 4 this year.

The boy will be sentenced on 12 November.

The tragedy touched many in Brixton Hill, including those who know Alim’s family from the Bombay Inn, their restaurant on Brixton Hill. Neighbours of the family on Saxby Road have worked hard to support the Uddins as well as concerned local parents, with the help of Chuka Umunna MP.

The Uddins have now offered a reward of £10,000 for information that brings others they suspect of involvement in the murder to justice.
