In the presence of the Deputy Mayor of London, Matthew Ryder QC, and hundreds of community activists, Brixton Hill’s councillor Martin Tiedemann was one of four to be presented with an award to recognise his support for Latin Americans in London.

The event took place at a Colombian restaurant in Elephant & Castle, presented by the organisers of the ‘Mes Amigo‘ or Amigo Month, a month of festivities each autumn celebrating the contribution of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities in the United Kingdom.

Martin, whose mother is from South America, thanked the organisers for the recognition but was able to make clear that organisations like Brixton’s IRMO and the Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK have been the real heroes of the campaign for Latin Americans in London.

Martin has also been supporting the #RegisterForRuby campaign, an effort to find a bone marrow donor for Ruby, a Salvadorian mother of two from North London.
