House of Hygge on Acre Lane applies for licence to show films and serve food until midnight

Coffee shop and events space House of Hygge on Acre Lane has applied for a licence from Lambeth Council to show films from 9am to 11pm every day, and late night refreshment until midnight each day, including the sale of alcohol, with the licence starting at 8am.

Residents in the area have expressed general concern about the changing nature of Acre Lane, with increasing nuisance especially at night, and an unplanned spread of town centre activities. Residents have the opportunity to make representations on this application, addressing whether it meets the licensing objectives, such as the prevention of public nuisance.

Details can be found at www.lambeth.gov.uk/business-services-rates-and-licensing/licence-comments/current-licence-applications and representations can be made by email to licensing@lambeth.gov.uk by 7th December 2018.

The building has already been approved for demolition to be replaced by over twenty flats (17/03846/FUL) but work has not started.

The long awaited building of the new education centre for Brixton Windmill will start later this month. The new centre will be used to run workshops for schools and other groups as well as supporting the regular programme of Windmill open days and other events, and is being paid for by Lambeth Council with a crowdfunder campaign by the Friends of Windmill Gardens raising the funds to fit out the centre.

The building contractors are writing to local residents to introduce themselves and provide information about the construction process, which will involve some disruption. The project will commence with the site being set-up on Monday 19th November 2018, followed by the ground-works for the building, with the new timber frame and walling then to be completed.

The works themselves will be carried out Monday to Friday from 8am-5pm for a minimum 20 week period, subject to extension due to constraints posed by weather conditions, and with weekend working throughout the project as necessary. Deliveries will generally be scheduled to site after 9am and before 3pm.
