The Great Get Together on Sudbourne Road this Sunday

DB-iG1xWAAA_ilhThis Sunday will see the return of the Sudbourne Road street party as part of the national event, The Great Get Together.  This invites people to get together with their neighbours to share food and celebrate all that we hold in common, inspired by Jo Cox, the MP killed on 16 June last year.

Sudbourne Road’s event takes place from 2pm until the evening on Sunday 18 June and features a shared lunch, kids’ activities, a chill-out tea and cake area, and plenty of music and other activities.

The Street Party is a free get together – it’s not a political event or a fundraiser – but an occasion to bring friends and neighbours together to share food, music and entertainment. Councillors will be there to support the event.

Last call for entries for ‘Blooming Lambeth’

‘Blooming Lambeth’ is a celebration of growing, greening and innovations happening in Lambeth, a partnership between Lambeth Council and Incredible Edible Lambeth. Residents are asked to take a look at the categories and nominate yourself, your neighbours, a community group, or your whole street or estate as an example of what’s best about Lambeth and the people who live here.

Applicants for each category of the competition are asked to send in a photo and a description of ‘your story’ in three sentences by the deadline of 16th June. For an entry form phone 020 7926 3401 or email bloom@lambeth.gov.uk.

The categories are:

  • Home in Bloom – for front or back gardens
  • Community in bloom – if you have an estate or community garden to be proud of
  • Food growing – your individual (or your neighbour’s) vegetable patch, herb garden, window box or container garden
  • Innovation – The best initiative or project. Something you or someone you know has done to change things for the better
  • Windowbox or balcony – Some people can make the most out the smallest of spaces
  • Community food growing – for the group that gardens together and contributes to the community.

The prize for each category is £100 garden centre vouchers. Incredible Edible Lambeth will be judging the entries in each category and holding an awards ceremony at the Garden Museum, Lambeth Palace on 12 October 2017.

Lambeth’s #CleanAirWeek starts today – sign up to #BetterAir pledges

better_air01
Thursday 15 June is the first National Clean Air Day. Lambeth is supporting this by hosting its first ever Clean Air Week, starting today.

There are things going on every day, including the launch on Monday of our ‘Better Air’ campaign. The focus of the campaign will be on lobbying central government and the Mayor of London for the measures we need to improve London’s appalling air quality. We will raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution and encourage residents to do their bit to help the environment. A full list of the activities taking place is available here.

A key strand of the campaign will be the launch of our  ‘Better Air Pledges’. We are asking residents to think about how they can do something to help air quality and there are a few things you can do:

  1. Make an online pledge – pledging to make differences in your life to reduce air pollution.
  2. Support us on social media – tweet or share something on Facebook about your pledge using #BetterAir. Include a photo or video in your tweet so you can join our gallery of supporters. Or tell us what you’re doing for #CleanAirWeek. You can also retweet @Lambeth_Council where they’ll be posting tweets throughout the week.
  3. Share this Lambeth Council page and encourage others to make a pledge too.

We’ve achieved some real successes over the last couple of years – including an ambitious Air Quality Action Plan and a clean bus corridor from Brixton to Streatham including Brixton Hill – but we still have a lot to do. Please get behind the campaign so we can continue to build support for our efforts to improve Lambeth’s air.
