Brixton Hill councillors have prepared a leaflet that is currently hitting doormats across the ward.
The leaflet addresses current issues in the area, including measures being taken to address flytipping and litter, Brixton Windmill and the focus on road safety in the area.
Celebrated chef Cyrus Todiwala OBE DL is hosting a special evening at The Clink Restaurant at Brixton Prison to raise vital funds to support The Clink’s ongoing commitment to prisoner rehabilitation and reducing reoffending rates.
Todiwala, who is a chef ambassador for The Clink charity, will invite guests to ‘explore the culinary flavours of India’ with a five-course menu. The evening will begin with drinks and canapés, before serving coconut wrapped fish and curried mince lamb. Other dishes on the menu include Indian-style apricot chicken and caramelised onion rice, sprinkled with spice dust. To finish, guests can indulge in Cyrus’s famous baked custard, flavoured with cardamon, nutmeg and rose scent.

A road order for a temporary road closure of Upper Tulse Hill has been published today. In order to allow works to be carried out to repair a water main, vehicles will not be able to use a 30-metre stretch of Upper Tulse Hill from the Brixton Hill end from 24th February.
The works are expected to take just three days although the Order allows for up to one month to allow for contingencies.
Brixton Hill has been featured in the New York Times Travel section as an up-and-coming destination, the pitch being that our locally-owned businesses “are successfully eschewing the onslaught of gentrification and proving that cool doesn’t have to come with a high price tag.”
The article highlights the stretch of Brixton Hill around the White Horse, including Alkaline juice bar, the Fish Lounge, Negril, F.Mondays and Kata Kata.
One local resident told the NYT, “It’s the music and cultural history that made all the developers want to come to Brixton in the first place. On Brixton Hill that creative community spirit is still alive; this area is for real people.”
Francklin of Kata Kata said he appreciates the authenticy of Brixton Hill. “My customers are local and happy to be in a place that is relaxed and fair with basic prices and honesty. That’s what this area is really good at, it’s honest… we want to keep Brixton Hill as it is. It should be the place where a 60-year-old resident can spend an afternoon across the table from a local politician.”
In the presence of the Deputy Mayor of London, Matthew Ryder QC, and hundreds of community activists, Brixton Hill’s councillor Martin Tiedemann was one of four to be presented with an award to recognise his support for Latin Americans in London.
The event took place at a Colombian restaurant in Elephant & Castle, presented by the organisers of the ‘Mes Amigo‘ or Amigo Month, a month of festivities each autumn celebrating the contribution of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities in the United Kingdom.
Martin, whose mother is from South America, thanked the organisers for the recognition but was able to make clear that organisations like Brixton’s IRMO and the Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK have been the real heroes of the campaign for Latin Americans in London.

The latest Tenants’ and Residents’ Association Newsletter from Lambeth Council’s Housing Department is out. It features news for TRAs and training offers, alongside the regular ‘TRA of the month’ feature. This month the featured TRA is Windmill View TRA, covering Loats Road, Bowater Close, Claudia Jones Way and some properties on Lyham Road.
One of our recently re-launched TRAs is Windmill View on Lyham Road, Brixton.
They’ve been meeting in the local youth club to get themselves re-registered and constituted. The following was taken from the chair of the TRA, Sonia Bailey, report to the AGM which we think encapsulates why TRAs remain fundamental to our engagement.
“We want to take the TRA forward fully membered and hope to attract persons who share our vision we have to ensure we maintain a community and environment where residents can live a clean, fear-free and safe life with respect for each other.”
The TRA have had their work cut out with major works and anti social behaviour issues which have been successfully resolved working with the Housing office and Police. The TRA are now looking to brighten up some of the play areas on the edge of the estate with a project involving the estate children.
