Application for Clapham Park ‘masterplan’ submitted – public events next week

The planning application for the Clapham Park Estate area was submitted on 31 July, with new plans to increase the number of affordable homes and public amenity space from the previous plans following the stock transfer of the estate to Metropolitan Housing.

Metropolitan say the new design will allow them to improve housing standards further and increase the delivery of affordable housing. The amount and quality of amenity space has been increased from the original masterplan and a comprehensive package of sustainability measures – including living roofs, bat and bird boxes, Car Club availability and electric vehicle charging points – is provided as part of the planning application.

They add that the submission of the planning application, which follows a large number of consultation events, marks an important step forward in their ambition to continue to revitalise the area for residents and the community, and to fulfil their obligations under the stock transfer agreement.

Metropolitan will be holding public events on 15 August (3–8pm), 16 August (9am–12pm) and 19 August (1–5pm) at the Pop-Up Shop on Kings Avenue, SW4 8EU, where information about the proposal will be provided.

Clapham Park Masterplan to be unveiled this week

In January, Metropolitan Housing held the second round of consultation events on the Clapham Park ‘masterplan’. Residents spent time designing their ideal community hub, new buildings, open spaces and streets at the interactive workshops.

Following the creative workshops, Metropolitan will be unveiling the masterplan for the first time at drop-in events on Saturday 25 March 11am to 3pm and Thursday 30 March 3pm to 8pm. Both events will be held at the Pop-up Shop, next to Sainsbury’s on King’s Avenue SW4 8EU. You still have time to influence the final masterplan so please go and let them know what you think.

Public consultation regarding Glenbrook Primary School this week

invitation20to20a20public20consultation20templateGlenbrook Primary School is hosting two public consultation events later this week for residents to find out more about plans to rebuild the primary school and outline plans to put a brand new secondary school on the same site on Kings Avenue.

The plans for the new school buildings have been given the go-ahead by the Government and a planning application will be made shortly. If approved, construction would start this summer and is expected to be completed by September 2018 for the primary school. Residents will also be able to comment on suggestions for the proposed secondary school’s name.

Developers Bowmer & Kirkland, in partnership with the school, will host two public consultation events at Glenbrook Primary School on Friday 10th March, 15.30 to 20.00 and Saturday 11th March, 10.00 to 13.00. Residents are invited to come along to find out more information and to have questions answered.

EVENT: The future of Clapham Park

image003A series of drop-in sessions for residents this week showcases plans for the future of Clapham Park. Brixton Hill ward residents in area 3 on the map shown, including those in Kintyre Court and Kingswood Road, are invited to the session on Thursday 26 January on Kings Avenue.

Metropolitan Housing are reviewing the masterplan for Clapham Park to make sure it delivers what the local community needs today and into the future.

At these events Metropolitan want to talk in more detail about specific elements of the masterplan, including:

  • Landscape and open spaces (including play areas, public parks, private and communal outside areas)
  • Movement and parking (including parking, types of streets and how pedestrians, cyclists and cars get around)
  • Buildings and height
  • Use of land (including retail, recreational and community facilities)

The event for ‘Clapham Park East’, covering Brixton Hill ward, takes place in the marquee by the Community Resource Centre next to Sainsbury’s, Kings Avenue, SW4 on Thursday 26th January. Drop in any time between 2pm and 8pm.

Indoor craft market raising funds for family learning

1010785_197733163767643_1874911845_nAn indoor craft market takes place this weekend on Sunday 2 February 12-3 to raise funds for a community initiative.

Cara and Nicolette are parents of children at Richard Atkins Primary School and are organising the market to sell art, craft, clothes, preserves, unwanted Christmas presents, second hand/recycled goods etc.

The aim of the market is to raise money for funding Family Learning at the Clapham Park Centre at Richard Atkins School and Community Centre. It takes place at the Centre, which is at the back of the school and accessed from Kingswood Road.

Kintyre Court & New Park Road residents invited to hear more about Clapham Park

clpahamparkA joint meeting organised by the Clapham Park Neighbourhood Forum and the Clapham Park TRA will take place on next Thursday 30 January from 7-8.30pm. Kintyre Court on New Park Road is part of the Clapham Park development and residents and neighbours are invited.

The topic will be on the Clapham Park Regeneration Programme, led by Metropolitan Housing. The programme will not only have a direct impact on the Clapham Park estate, which has properties in the wards of Thornton, Brixton Hill and Streatham Hill, but also has a wider implication for those who live on the periphery of the estate.

The meeting will be at the Community Resource Centre, corner of Headlam Road & Kings Avenue SW4 8HF (opposite Sainsbury’s), Councillor Diana Morris, Chair of the Neighbourhood Forum, will be chairing the meeting and there will be refreshments.
